Parenteral Nutrition and Associated Consumables (Ref: 2019/S 085-203484)
Background
Building on the success of the previous Parenteral Nutrition framework agreement, the East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub has introduced a replacement framework, facilitating consistent and cost-effective access to parenteral nutrition products for trusts.
The framework includes updated East of England standardised neonatal formulations and introduces paediatric standardised formulations. The service specification was developed by the Parenteral Nutrition Stakeholder Group, comprising dietetic specialists and pharmacists from NHS acute trusts and regional Quality Assured pharmacists.
Benefits
- The potential for trusts to benefit from framework pricing which includes some discounted lines as highlighted by each supplier
- Option for mini competitions, with the potential to realise further savings against specific requirements
- Use of standardised formulations for neonates and paediatrics aligns with the recommendation in the recent NHSi Aseptic review to move towards standardised parenteral nutrition
- Formulations align to the ESPGHAN recommendations and will be updated throughout the lifetime of the framework
- Neonatal formulations come with a mandatory neonatal prescription form and paediatric formulations include suggested prescription
