Wound imaging solutions: putting digital wound care in focus

Wound care services are managing rising demand, complex patient needs and limited clinical capacity. Patients requiring ongoing monitoring can place significant pressure on outpatient services and community teams.

The Wound Imaging Solutions framework supports a more flexible and efficient approach. It enables clinicians to capture, monitor and assess wounds digitally, helping services improve patient pathways and make better use of clinical time.

What the framework offers

The East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub’s Wound Imaging Solutions framework provides a compliant route to market. It gives organisations access to a range of approved suppliers without the need to run a full procurement exercise.

The framework covers both hardware and software solutions, supporting services to adopt digital wound imaging in a way that suits local needs. It is structured across two lots:

  • Lot one: Three-Dimensional Wound Imaging Solutions
  • Lot two: Two-Dimensional Wound Imaging Solutions

This allows organisations to select the most appropriate approach, whether they need advanced imaging capabilities or simpler photographic solutions.

Supporting better patient care

Digital wound imaging enables clinicians to measure wound size, depth and healing over time. This creates a consistent record that can be reviewed and compared across different stages of care.

Remote assessment reduces the need for patients to travel to hospital for routine reviews. This improves access, particularly for patients with limited mobility or those living further from clinical settings. Clinicians can review images remotely and prioritise patients who need in-person care.

Improving collaboration across services

Wound care often involves multiple teams across different settings. Sharing images and data securely helps improve communication between clinicians.

This supports joined-up care across community services, acute trusts and specialist teams such as dermatology and plastic surgery. It also helps maintain continuity, as clinicians can track progress and make informed decisions based on a clear visual record.

Enabling more efficient services

The framework supports more efficient use of clinical resources. Remote visibility of wounds can reduce unnecessary appointments and avoid wasted visits.

Clinicians can focus on patients who need direct care while still monitoring others through digital tools. This helps services manage demand, reduce pressure on outpatient clinics and improve overall productivity.

Who can use the framework

The framework is available to NHS organisations and other fully or partially publicly funded bodies. This includes acute and community trusts, integrated care boards (ICBs), integrated care systems (ICSs) and wider healthcare providers. It is designed for use across a range of clinical settings.

A flexible and established solution

Although developed regionally, the framework has seen uptake beyond the East of England. This reflects wider demand for digital solutions that support wound care pathways. By offering a compliant route, a choice of suppliers and flexible solutions, the framework helps organisations adopt digital wound imaging with confidence.
