In this month’s feature we Get to know David Olusanya, Procurement Specialist – Pharmacy and Healthcare Services.
What is your role at the Hub?
I have been at the Hub for nearly four years. My role is Procurement Specialist – Pharmacy and Healthcare Services Division. I had my first ever ‘remote’ interview during the pandemic lockdown in early 2021. I have been working in NHS procurement for almost 11 years. In total, I have 20 years of experience in procurement, mostly within the NHS and public services. I also have experience in procurement for local authorities, utilities and Tesco’s Property department, where, amongst other things, I bought petrol pumps.
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?
For me getting to grips with new legislation and new regulations. Making sure the Hub offers best value and is sustainable. Also, that the administration processes we have in place support the Hub’s long-term goals and strategy.
What do you find most rewarding about your role, or working in the NHS?
I enjoy working with people. I want to make a positive difference in as many lives as possible through my role, whether that be the end user of the service, the hub or my EOECPH colleagues.
What was your first job?
Well, that’s a little tricky to answer. I guess unofficially working in my dad’s shop when I was very young, but my first proper job was when I worked as a kitchen porter at Harvester Restaurant in Dartford. I was paid £2.75 per hour. By the end of my shift, I had usually covered the cost of my train journey into work.
Tell us about your hobbies
As a Christian lay preacher I minister socially here in the UK and, in the past, overseas in Africa and the US. Other than that, I do Masters athletics and have just started a little bit of Masters powerlifting. I love listening to Gospel music.
What would your dream holiday be?
Any warm climate in Africa or the Caribbean where I can watch and do athletics.
