Homecare Medicines Policy

The Chief Pharmacist or equivalent is responsible for ensuring that the homecare organisation has a homecare policy in place. This policy provides strategic direction for provision of homecare services and is compliant with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Professional Standards for Homecare Services.[8.1.1 - Royal Pharmaceutical Society Professional Standards for Homecare Services]

National guidance is available within domain 3 of the RPS Handbook for Homecare Services (Handbook) detailing various points which should be considered for inclusion within a trust's homecare medicines services policy. Included in the Handbook is an example policy from University College London Hospitals NHS Trust. For ease of access this can be found in the 'Related Files' section to the right of the page.

To further support member trusts' compliance with the above standard the EoECPH has collated examples of existing homecare medicines services policies kindly shared by member trust chief pharmacists for the benefit of others.

For EoECPH members with a pharmacy login, these files can be found here.

If you are an EoECPH member and would like a pharmacy login, or if you require any further information please contact: joe.bassett@eoecph.nhs.uk
