Stoma Care Nurse Sponsorship Service (Ref: 2023/S 000-014056)

Request access to the framework

All of our frameworks have been designed to deliver real impact to the communities we serve.

Highlights

  • Deliver a regular reliable Stoma Nurse service with specialist clinical input to deliver a better quality of life and promote independence for patients.
  • Effective prescribing control through consistent application of prescribing guidance and the authority’s accessory formulary to ensure items issued are cost-effective and quantities supplied in line with patients’ clinical needs.
  • Free up GP time by having specialist Stoma Care Nurses managing prescriptions to add clinical value to the prescribing process. This should ensure suitable quantities and products are prescribed, reducing primary care admin time for GPs
  • Agreed patient pathway to reduce complications through regular interactions with patients to deliver improved clinical care.
  • Deliver more accessible community support for patients following discharge to avoid patients attending the Emergency Department and accessing urgent healthcare services due to stoma related complications.

The Stoma Care Nurse Sponsorship Service framework established on behalf of NHS Procurement in Partnership and led by the East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub, is accessible to all members across the four NHS collaborative procurement partners and the broader NHS.

Informed by research on the region’s stoma care services, outlined in the StoMap Baseline Report, the framework aims to enhance patient-focused services, improve patient care, and achieve cost savings by reducing waste. It provides a standardised and transparent approach for procuring Stoma Care Nurse sponsorship agreements, offering consistency in both primary and secondary care environments, covering pre- and post-operative patient care.

Specialised nurses contribute to reducing complications associated with stoma surgery, ensuring appropriate product prescriptions and choices. The framework offers two service models: the Stoma Care Nurse Sponsorship Service Model and the Stoma Care Nurse Managed Service Model.

Choosing a Hub framework isn’t about ticking a box; it’s about unlocking better outcomes, faster.
