End User Devices Pooling Project 2 underway
07 September 2022

This initiative is part of a collaborative programme of work between NHS England Central Commercial Function (CCF) Digital and Technology Category, working in partnership with NHS PiP (represented by NOE CPC) and Crown Commercial Service (CCS).

As the East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub is one of the four NHS PiP partners, our member trusts have the opportunity to participate in this project to benefit from the resulting savings.

End User Devices

The EUD pooling project aims to deliver additional benefits, both financially and through added value to the NHS, unobtainable locally by trusts, by aggregating device volumes to the market. This project aims to mitigate a challenging market with global supply issues, extended lead times and cost pressures.

The 2021/22 pooling exercise aggregated 87,000 devices across more than 40 trusts with savings between 5 to 12%, despite the short project timescales and market constraints.

Pooling Project 2 – now underway

The 2022/23 pooling project has commenced and with current market conditions, supply uncertainty and current price rises, we would encourage all trusts to participate.

Operational savings we are expecting include early transportation via sea rather than air, packaging savings, volume discounts breaks, bundled products and consolidated device types offering greater savings for products higher in value or specification.

A core basket has been issued with a request for interested trusts to respond by 19th September. Orders as a result of the procurement will be placed early December for delivery by 31st March 2023.
