In this month’s feature we Get to know Stewart Palmer, Business Information Analyst – Operations.
What is your role at the Hub?
My role revolves around making sure the Hub’s procurement specialists have all the data and information they need to make their day-to-day decisions.
This falls into three main areas – customer contracts, supplier deliveries and the supply of market information to enable more informed decision making.
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?
I find the complexity of my projects really stimulating because it constantly pushes me to learn and grow. I thrive on the problem-solving aspect of my job; each challenge is an opportunity to come up with innovative solutions. For example, constructing the customer contract process was time consuming but the sense of accomplishment I felt after overcoming these challenges was incredibly rewarding.
What do you find most rewarding about your role, or working in the NHS?
Delivering projects that meet and exceed my Hub colleagues’ expectations is the most rewarding part of my job. I find it hugely rewarding to work for an NHS organisation dedicated to benefiting the NHS and, ultimately, the patients.
What was your first job?
My first role was Junior Administrative Assistant at East Herts District Council based in Bishops Stortford. It involved contacting customers by telephone and filing – computer mainframe and microfiche. The job equipped me with strong foundational and organisational skills.
Tell us about your hobbies
Internet research. Software Technology is always changing and improving so I like to keep abreast of changes that would benefit both me in my role and the Hub.
I also enjoy reading. I’m currently reading Source Code: My Beginnings by Bill Gates. I’m interested in Bill Gates as my work has always revolved around Microsoft software.
What would your dream holiday be?
Relaxing abroad in the sun by a pool.
